Students SAFE to Return to School

Dear Parents and Guardians,

This morning, around school start time, we were made aware of a generalized threat towards our school. We contacted the Nottawasaga OPP and an investigation ensued. The police asked for our cooperation in placing our school in a lockdown - this means that all exterior doors are locked and students must remain behind in closed doors in classrooms. Since buses were just arriving at this time, we relocated the students to alternate off-site locations. All students were safe and accounted for.

As the investigation continued throughout the morning, a decision was made to close the school and provide transportation to students as required. This was done as a precautionary measure so that police could continue their investigation and because the majority of our students had already been relocated off-site.  The police have completed their investigation and have indicated that students are safe to return to school on Friday, April 21st as normal. The comments made were NOT directed to OUR school.

We always take situations such as these very seriously and respond with the utmost care and precaution. Staff from our school and the board office worked closely with Nottawasaga OPP and we would like to assure you that our students and staff were safe at all times.

We would also like to commend our students and staff for handling the situation in a calm and appropriate manner. Please feel free to contact the school directly should you have any questions or concerns.

Sincerely,

Annalisa Varano

Principal
